We would wager that Razer did not want to lose the functionality of the two extra buttons, and the new design constraint called for them to be relocated - and that’s a fair compromise in my books. The entire top plate of the mouse is now removable, which not only houses the Razer’s 2.4Ghz Hyperspeed wireless dongle, but also the replaceable AA or AAA batteries. This change might seem odd at first but it was done to accommodate the new functionality aspect of the V2 X Hyperspeed. If you intend to use these buttons for in-game actions, the lack of differentiating factor between them make it hard to judge exactly which button you are about to click. They are quite far out of reach to be accidentally pressed, but as a result, they are also difficult to reach in a blind fire if you want to change the DPI settings while gaming. The only major difference between the V2 X Hyperspeed, and the V2 and V2 Pro, is that the two DPI switches have now been moved from the middle of the mouse, to the edges of the left click button. Why change something that is so universally loved? It features nearly the exact same shape and form factor of the other Deathadders in the V2 lineup, which makes sense not only from a cost standpoint for Razer, but also from a design standpoint. Razer hasn’t fiddled around with the ergonomics or design of the V2 X Hyperspeed. Also, at its price point, they also compete with the $129 Deathadder V2 Pro, and might just be a far cheaper option if you want the Deathadder ergonomics in a wireless form.
