  • Mozilla took 5 days to update Firefox (March 18).
  • they have a much, much lower marketshare than either Firefox or Chrome, which means less scrutiny for their source-code, and less devs and cryptographers working to make it more secure.

they always take a long time for security updates (see Shellshock and Flashback). The only thing they did in response to the NSA revelations was STARTTLS, not enough IMO. they don't support any cutting-edge encryption in neither their servers nor their browsers (no certificate pinning means you can get MITM'd by a certificate authority under an intel agency's control, no HSTS means you can get MITM'd by the network you're connected to, no forward secrecy means that if NSA stores all encrypted data flowing between you and iCloud, and then they obtain Apple's encryption key, they can retroactively decrypt all the data they've accumulated with forward secrecy, you can't do that retroactively). They've shown no interest in changing that, shamefully. their servers are likely completely compromised by the NSA since they don't encrypt connections between data centers (which we know got Google compromised, Apple certainly isn't immune from that). So, how is Firefox better for privacy than other browsers? Except that, according to an article published on Lifehacker, including sources from EFF, Chrome isn't really more intrusive than Firefox and other browsers.

It's as if Firefox is the Windows of operating systems–along with Internet Explorer, it's the one being targeted by malicious hackers.īut even if Firefox was as secure as Chrome, is it really really more private than other browser? Sure, Mozilla is more committed to an open web than other popular browsers, there's no doubt about that, at least, for now. I'm not so sure everyone can say the same. Luckily I realized it was fishy before I opened the file and just dragged it to the trash. I assumed it was how Firefox alerted its users to updates, so I downloaded it. Not too long after I switched back to Firefox from Chrome in January, a new tab opened up on its own, saying there was new Firefox update available. While Chrome, Safari and Internet Explorer all have a sandbox, Firefox still doesn't.įrom personal experience, Firefox doesn't seem to block as many pop-ups as Chrome, either. Chrome clearly won over Firefox and other browsers at this year's Pwn2Own. Security and privacy go hand in hand: you can't have privacy without security, and Firefox seems to be less secure than Chrome and other browsers. I stay away from I.E.Mozilla says it is committed to an open and private web, but is Firefox really better for privacy? They're always attacking one Microsoft product or another, so I think the more Microsoft products, you can stay away from, the better! So far, my Netscape just keeps, keeping on. It seems the hackers seem to have a thing against Microsoft. Porno I don't want, or ask for! (SHEESH! What if my granddaughter tried to log on through my I.E!). Now, all I ever get when I try to use I.E.

Then after all the hassle of not having a computer, when I got it back, I.E., was STILL a mess. They actually got me, right through my dial-up & my firewall! You'd think they'd have the sense to attack someone with broadband! Anyway, after the browser hijack, my son tried wiping out most of my hard drive to try & fix the problem. PS -> I DID use Internet Explorer for about 6 months when I first got this computer, but my Browser was hijacked (what a pain THAT was!). I figure, Netscape has been around long enough to remove all the bugs & has been upgraded many times through out the years & as I said above, it works for me!

So far, I have no great use for watching TV or Movies on line, or other fancy broadband goodies. Mostly for streaming old Coast to Coast (Art Bell) & NPR programs to listen to while I work at home & also to hang out on ThriftyFun & check my e-mail. But, then again, I'm STILL using dial-up, so that should tell you something about how much & what I use my computer for.
